The Micro Laser Peel offers a kinder
and gentler laser resurfacing option for the treatment
of fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone and photoaging.
This technology enables precise removal of the outer
layers of sun damaged or aging skin, revealing smoother
and more youthful skin. The
Micro Laser Peel Therapy offers many advantages over traditional
laser resurfacing including rapid healing without
prolonged redness or down time.
Erbium resurfacing can be safely performed on the neck,
decollete, and back of the hands, as well as the face.
This was not possible with traditional laser
resurfacing. Dr. Brownsberger
will determine the proper depth of peel to meet your
needs. She will also advise you on how the treatment may
impact your work or social schedule.
The 10 micron peel or "weekend peel" can
be performed comfortably in the office, with only
topical anesthetic cream. This procedure causes mild
flakiness for three days resulting in a polished and
rejuvenated appearance. The 60
micron peel can correct pigmented lesions, vascular
lesions, fine lines, wrinkles, and a dull complexion.
You should be full healed in 5-7 days. Mild redness may
persist for up to two weeks but this can be easily
covered with makeup. This procedure is a little more
aggressive and requires oral analgesics as well as
topical anesthetic cream, and will require
transportation arrangements for the patient.
Our studies show that a total of four to
five 10 micron peels, performed every 2 - 4 weeks,
achieves results comparable to a deeper peel, with no
down time.
Micro Laser Peel FAQ's:
What is the micro laser peel?
A micro laser peel is a laser peel that safely and
precisely removes the outermost layers of the skin. The
treatment can improve fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin
tone, and control acne break-outs by resurfacing the
skin. The vaporizing action of the laser acts on the
dull outer layer of skin, causing it to peel, revealing
a smoother layer of healthy skin.
Who should consider a micro laser peel?
Patients with UV damage causing uneven pigment, age
spots, vascular lesions, fine lines, and wrinkles will
find the micro laser peel beneficial. The micro laser
peel also improves the tightness and texture of the
skin.
How is the micro laser peel different from
microdermabrasion?
Generally, microdermabrasion only removes the stratum
corneum (10-15 microns). The micro laser peel is an
intra to full epidermal peel (20-60 microns). Because
this procedure ablates deeper into the epidermis, it is
the perfect step between microdermabrasion and deeper
peels.
How often does a micro laser peel need to be done?
Individual treatment will vary according to the
patient's particular situation and desired results. Dr.
Brownsberger will provide you with an appropriate
treatment plan at your initial aesthetic consultation. A
package of five 10 micron peels may achieve similar
results to a 60 micron peel but with little to no down
time.
What can the patient expect?
Smoother, healthier, and more vibrant skin. He or she
will notice a significant and immediate change in the
skin texture and tightness when compared to
microdermabrasion.
Does it hurt?
The laser pulses have been compared to a snapping or
burning sensation. A topical anesthetic will be provided
to make the procedure more comfortable.
Do I have to wear any type of dressing or bandage
after the procedure?
NO! Our clinical staff will prescribe appropriate
medications for your post-treatment care, such as
Aquaphor ointment. It is used as a barrier to keep the
air away from your skin while you grow new epthelial
cells.
How long is the healing process?
The healing process varies from patient to patient but
generally will vary with depth. Immediately following
the procedure it will feel like a bad sunburn. The
patient will have minor sloughing and itchiness the
following day. The second day the redness will begin to
fade dramatically. On the third day, the redness will be
diminished and easily covered by makeup. |
